OCT 15, 2024 Our property manager did an outstanding job of cleaning the sidewalk and street sign pole recently, as noted below. Turning onto The Mall from South Mall, I could not help but notice this street light just across the street. Why did not one of our 1,000+ residents say something about this? Why? It will be cleaned up tout de suite, of that you can be certain. POST NOTE: The city will clean this up. Report such things to maintenance@cityofirvine.org or use their app.
The city of Irvine cleaned it up nicely in just a few days. Don't let your dogs dirty the sidewalks. Jerk them away when they sniff where they should not go.

OCT 4, 2024 BIG STREET BUMP ON MIRO
ANOTHER BUMP ON OTHER SIDE OF ISLAND
A DIFFERENT ROOT CAUSED A CRACK 20 FEET AWAY
TRIPPING HAZARD ON CAPRI SENT IN TO IRVINE MAINTENANCE. IT WILL BE GROUND DOWN NEXT WEEK, I PROMISE YOU. MANY PEOPLE TRIP OVER THESE EVERY DAY AND BREAK THEIR ARM. OBVIOUSLY IT HAS BEEN GROUND DOWN BEFORE BUT ROOTS ARE VERY PERSISTENT.
Thank you, John, for reporting these issues. I see you walking around the Colony and appreciate your diligence in reporting to the City of Irvine.
My best,
Mary Russo

OCT 15 UPDATE
WHEN I SAW CREWS WORKING ON CAPRI AND MIRO, I RUSHED HOME AND BAKED FRESH CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES TO GIVE TO THEM FROM THE PAN, STILL HOT
Sept 28, 2024 Two bumps on Avenue Mendocino were reported to Maintenance@cityofIrvine.org
They may not be at or above the threshold for repairs but you can always ask. My guess is that they will repair both within one week. (Red highlight added for reason shown below.)
October 1 Street repaired in two business days
Sept 28 Filth in front of the clubhouse must be scrubbed clean. How has the board overlooked such obvious work?
Sept 11, 2024 LARGE BUMP IN SCOTTSDALE REPORTED TO MAINTENANCE@CITYOFIRVINE.ORG
That bump took years to develop ironically just one block from the board president's home, and obviously was not reported to the city by the property manager, any of seven board members, or any Colony resident for that period. Why not?
Update: Board Member Valerie Schiano answered why not in an email: "Probably because we have more important things going on in our lives."

The BOD obtained a bid from 24HRC dated 5-5-24 to repaint the interior of Colony clubhouse for $18,310. The bid is only good for 15 days. No homeowner would never think of paying to repaint what looks as good as the clubhouse interior.
TEC Building Services submitted a bid dated 5-6-24 to repaint the clubhouse interior for $11,800. They would start work "within 3 weeks" and finish "1 week after starting."

August 27, 2024 California's Franchise Tax Board notified me of an $1,800 fine because I simply overlooked a checkmark in one single box, out of 10 or so pages of tax return. I provided them paperwork to avoid the fine.
This brought back memories of the Colony's loss of Corporate Charter back around 2008. What a story of incompetence that is. First, our property "mangler" failed to show the BOD letters from the FTB that our state tax return was not complete. This went on for three years until our Charter was revoked and the Colony Club Association was no longer a legal entity. One spiteful resident purchased the name from the Secretary of State and came to our board meeting, offering to sell our name back to us for $40,000. He owned it!
We refused and proceeded to reincorporate, at substantial expense. First, we had to resolve the reason for the revocation, which nobody here knew. The property manager could not correct the matter because they had no idea why the Charter was lost, despite receiving notices from the Secretary of State. The president of the board could not do it. I stepped in and accomplished what they tried but failed to do. When they asked me how I did it, I refused to tell them, because my solution was so trivial it would have deflated the mystery of doing what nobody else could. I'll tell everyone now.
I wrote to my California Assemblyman asking for his help. Voila. FTB called me in a week and said, "How can we help you?" See how easy some things can be? FTB: "We need your 2005 state tax return signed." That's it! I obtained a signature and faxed it to them and they were happy, and released the block so that we could reincorporate under a different name.
The Colony, like every other group, small or large, needs competent leaders. We have so very many who are not, from the White House, to our governor, to our city council, to our communities.

Example #2
For fifty years, the Colony paid commercial rate for gas to heat our pool and clubhouse. I called Southern California Gas and told them the Colony was NOT "commercial," but residential. "Are residential rates lower?"
SCG told me, "Yes they are." Then convert us to residential. And they did, with one phone call. If that isn't a head-slapper.
__________
Example #3
For fifty years, the Colony paid for several huge water meters at our islands and greenbelts. Water charges are for gallons of water used plus a fixed monthly fee for each meter. Our bills were $20 for water and $120 for the meter! For fifty years! I called IRWD and asked if they would charge us to downsize meters. "First time is free." I had three water meters downsized, after the Colony paid far too much for fifty years. More could have been downsized, but I left the board in 2012 and suggested the BOD follow up. It never did.
